Animal overpopulation is a huge problem in our community. Last year, 16,255 unwanted dogs and cats were killed
in Pima County. Thousands more were abandoned to wander the streets.

AWASA (the Animal Welfare Alliance of Southern Arizona) is an alliance representing traditional animal shelters,
no-kill shelters and rescue groups in Southern Arizona. The mission of AWASA is to bring together all of the
animal welfare organizations to work together to bring about an end to companion animal overpopulation and to
reduce the deaths of unwanted animals through a network of spay/neuter and adoption programs.

In 2007, SNIP, AWASA’s Spay Neuter Intervention Project, with the participation of 9 veterinary clinics, spayed
and neutered 636 dogs and cats. This project was made possible by a grant from The Arizona Companion Animal
Spay and Neuter Pet Friendly License Plates, (the ones that depict a cartoon dog and cat with the logo “Pets Enrich Our Lives”),
Funds from this plate go to spay and neuter programs all over the state. Additional funds for SNIP came from private
individuals in the community.

In order to increase the capacity of SNIP, a campaign is underway to invite Tucson businesses to become a SNIP partner.
SNIP was awarded a $10,000.00 grant from AZPetPlates for 2008. These funds have already been spent on 208 surgeries
in less than 4 months!! Through the “GET IN THE DRIVER’S SEAT TO END UNWANTED LITTERS” campaign, we hope to
raise an additional $30,000.00. Please consider making a donation of $100 or more to “AWASA:SNIP” and mail to the address below.
AWASA is a 501 c 3 not for profit corporation so all donations are tax deductible.
